The Beer

After a little research, I discovered that Doc Powell's is essentially a re-packager. They get their beer in barrels from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and rename it with a local twist. So, really, this review is for the beer from SFBC.

The names will appear with Doc Powell's label and SFBC's in parentheses.

Kickapoo Blonde (Midnight Star Ale) - Mild, but balanced with a decent tinge of bitter. Like Bud, but paler. Good introductory beer.
Reviewer's Rating: n/a

CatWhisker Wheat (Canary Wheat) - As thin as the day is long. It tastes like water with a squirt of lemon juice concentrate in it. Worst one of the five. Can you say "Lemon Joy?"
Reviewer's Rating: n/a

PaddleWheel Pale Ale (Phillips Ave. Pale Ale) - Malty and sugary sweet like coconut was the aroma. Apart from that, the PaddleWheel is in the classic English style with a perfect balance. It's a good medium-session beer. It went down well and left me wanting more.
Reviewer's Rating: n/a

Mighty Miss Red Ale (Ringneck Red Ale) - Aroma was clear and caramel/candy sweet. The Red Ale bursts onto the tongue, well balanced, then dissipates slowly into a long finish. While the body is actually medium, the flavor is much bolder.
Reviewer's Rating: n/a

GrandDad's Stout (Buffalo Stout) - Roasted barley/coffee smell. A 10 on the aroma. Relatively light in body, the strong roasted/chocolate jumps to the forefront. A very drinkable stout.
Reviewer's Rating: n/a

Afterthoughts

All are decent beers, save for the hideous Wheat (which my wife liked, of course). Not so much that I'm rushing back, but hey, if you're in La Crosse (or South Dakota), give these others a try.
