I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy
there's enough truth in this world
to kill a million young poets.
so why is it any surprise
when it happens?
the actual surprise to me
is when it doesn't.
I see all of the un-people
walking around completely oblivious
to this fact.
they think that poetry and prose (for the most part)
is for their personal enjoyment;
a thing to do before they go to sleep at night
or something to know so they'll be more interesting
around the coffee pot at work.
The real enjoyment for me
is when I'm alone with the words.
Regardless if someone reads them or not
it suffices to know that I wrote them
it suffices to know that I tore a tiny piece
of my soul out
and painted the page a better color.
it's the best feeling I can imagine.
