The Arrival

12:30 pm. First stop in The Cities. Easy to find.

The Beer

Dublin Apricot Wheat - A definite apricot sweetness in the aroma. The body was very light. Surprisingly dry - not bitter, but dusty/sour dry like a lemonade.
Reviewer's Rating: 3 - Equal to most macrobrews. Not too bad; nothing special.

Irish Gold - A light golden ale featuring Tett. and Cascade hops. It’s like a malt liquor Old Milwaukee with some hops thrown in. I guess it could be a good crossover beer for some.
Reviewer's Rating: 3 - Equal to most macrobrews. Not too bad; nothing special.

O’Gara’s Light Amber Ale - At least they tell you it’s light right up front and don’t just make a pissy red. It is what it is.
Reviewer's Rating: 2 - Only if it's free. And then, maybe not.

Sligo Red - Much better than the Amber. There was a slight hint of cinnamon aroma. Decent malt. Mt. Hood and Saaz hops.
Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.

Cork Brown Ale - Best One. Straightforward Brown, strong malt and body and subtle on the chocolate and caramel.
Reviewer's Rating: 5 - Now this is beer. Would definitely drink again.

The Atmosphere

O’Gara’s is more an entertainment complex than a brewpub. The dining area is huge, with three bars. They are probably just as well known for their live bands in O’Gara’s Garage and the Shamrock Room.

Afterthoughts

The beer is not bad, but not a single one is worth remembering, either. The Brown, at best.
