The Arrival
Was in town to see a Dwight Yoakem concert with a friend. Lucky for us Court Avenue was less than a mile away. Unlucky for us we missed a turn and were inundated with a labyrinth of one way streets and road construction. Otherwise it would have been easy to find. parking was ample.
The Beer
Two Rivers Rye -
This is their recipe geared more towards mass appeal, which says a lot. This isn't going to convert the bud lite drinker, unless they are really looking for a new taste. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Capital Raspberry -
Chick beer...sort of. The raspberry really hits you on first taste but. It is quicky nullified by rye. The raspberry gets more subtle after each. By the end of the glass your drinking Two Rivers Rye. Reviewer's Rating: 3 - Equal to most macrobrews. Not too bad; nothing special.
O'Leary's Irish Red -
Hoppy! The citrusness of the Cascade hops really stand out. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Topping Pale Ale -
Light body, hoppy aroma and pleasently bitter. nice... Reviewer's Rating: 5 - Now this is beer. Would definitely drink again.
Strong Ale Porter -
Vinious, really hits you with the warming. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Hefe-Weizen -
Grain & clove aroma. Tart flavor with strong banana esters present. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Pointer Brown Ale -
Sweet & smooth, malt dominates the balance, but hop prevents it from being overly sweet. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
James Polk Porter -
Subtle... Mild Coffee/Chocolate flavor...Finishes sweet. Reviewer's Rating: 4 - A decent beer. Slightly above average.
Discussion with Rob Moline
Not in on the weekend.
The Atmosphere
Our bartender, Kenny, was friendly and talkative. Nice, relaxing atmosphere. Didn't have a chance to try their food, but looked like you get some pretty good sized portions.
Afterthoughts
Subtle seemed to be the overall theme for the beer and the atmosphere. While all the beers were good, not one left a lasting impression on me. If I'm in town and looking for a place to relax and a have a beer, I would definitely revisit.
